Experience a unique stay at Isla Virginia Fun-talan, where the tranquil waters of the Duongan River meet the refreshing breeze of the Pacific. Unlike typical beachfront stays, this property offers a peaceful vantage point overlooking the river, while keeping the famous surfing waves of Sabang Beach just a short 5-minute stroll away. It is an ideal sanctuary for those who want the Baler adventure by day and a quiet, scenic atmosphere by night.
Travel Guide and Essential Tips
Best Time to Visit: For surfers, the peak swell is from October to February. For those seeking calm waters and sunshine, the summer months of March to May are perfect.
Booking Advice: Since the resort is popular for group “Barkada” trips, book at least two weeks in advance, especially for weekends.
Connectivity: While the resort offers free WiFi, the signal can be intermittent due to the coastal location. It is best to have a local SIM (Smart or Globe) as backup if you are working remotely.

Pricing Observations and Comparison
Isla Virginia Fun-talan is positioned as a Mid-Range Budget option. While luxury resorts like Costa Pacifica can cost upwards of ₱6,000 per night, rooms here typically range from ₱2,500 to ₱4,500 depending on the unit size and season. It offers better value for groups than standard hometels because of the included amenities like the swimming pool and 24-hour front desk.
Local Food and Tourism Tips
Dining: Don’t miss the Baler Surfer Grill for their famous charcoal-grilled chicken cooked in a repurposed Volkswagen Beetle. For a traditional feast, try the buffet at Kusina Luntian.
Souvenirs: Head to the Baler Public Market for Nanay Pacing’s famous peanut butter and coco jam.
Surfing: Always hire a licensed instructor at Sabang Beach. Lessons usually cost around ₱350–₱500 per hour, including board rental.
First Person Review
“I loved the balance of this place. Waking up to the view of the river was so much more relaxing than I expected. The rooms were surprisingly spacious and the aircon was ice-cold—a lifesaver after a day under the Baler sun. While the beach is a short walk away, having the pool right there for a late-night dip made the stay feel much more premium. It’s not a 5-star luxury hotel, but the warmth of the staff (shoutout to Kuya Otong!) and the cleanliness made it feel like a home away from home.”
